There are so many misconceptions about the very idea of spiritual warfare from those misguided people who thinks that everything is a demon (including natural disease and pure sinful flesh), to those who think that we are automatically protected and don't have to worry about the enemy... to those who don't believe in demons at all.
These are all unbalanced views. We will explore the Word of God and look at things in balance with the Word.
I have seen those who were demonized delivered by the power of Jesus Christ. I have seen people deeply involved in the occult set free. I've seen defeated believers set free by the power of God! The authority and promises that Jesus gave us is real. We are powerless though many times because of ignorance.
Through out the day I will be getting more into depth on the subject of binding and loosening.

MAIN SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 16:18-19 " 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. "
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ELEMENT 1 - THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST
First things first:
1. Scripturally, there are some elements or basic things that you must have and be operating in before you can really bind demonic attacks and make an effectual stand of God.
It is not the intention of this study to over-complicate your understanding. But there are some things that must be understood in being effective in binding and loosing spirits. There is a question of authority, and where and why this warfare is necessary at all. Some have asked, why do we have to pray if God knows our needs ahead of time? Well, it has to do with mankind being given dominion over the Earth. Man either gives the authority over his life to the forces of evil through sin, or to God through prayer. What we submit to is given power over our lives... for we have the choice and authority over the direction of our lives and this Earth.
Genesis 1:26 " And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. "
Just know from this that mankind is given dominion over the Earth.
2. Jesus said this about Satan in Luke 10:18-19, " 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. "
And Satan or the Serpent was in the garden already when the man and woman were put into the garden. And he was already definitely a fallen being... in fact, later I will show that he was actually a prisoner there, but he was very subtle and seduced the woman into falling. And the woman seduced the man into falling. And through that sin that was handed down through Adam, Satan gained much authority over mankind.
So Adam was given dominion over Satan, and by following Satan in his sin he turned around and gave much of that authority back to Satan. And the sin of Adam has been passed down by our blood.
Romans 5:12-14 " 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. "
Romans 3:23-25 " 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; "
According to Leviticus 17:11, " For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul. "
, and our blood was tainted with sin. God required our lives because of the sin in our blood.
The blood of Adam has the life force or the life or the soul in it. The Hebrew word for life and soul are the same word nephesh. When Adam sinned, God required the Nephesh or life/soul of man for sin. God told man in the Hebrew, if you eat from the tree dying you shall die. And the devil gained power over man through the sin in his life through the ultimate power of death.
Hebrews 2:14 " Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; "
3. Jesus Christ was not called Jesus before He was born of the Virgin Mary. He was the Word or LOGOS of God according to John 1:1. He became flesh and was a totally human being except he had no sin. His blood was not tainted by the sin that we are born into; for sin is passed through the father, and Jesus' father was GOD.
Jesus shed His blood for us. And the life force that flowed from His blood paid the price of death in ours. The blood of Jesus Christ literally destroyed the power of death that Satan had over mankind. Sin gives demons power over us. But the blood of Jesus broke their authority.
So, the devil had through sin much authority over man through man's sin. When you sin, you give demons authority or the right to hurt you.
If the blood is not present in your life, then demons and the Devil himself does not have to do anything you say or want... in other words you have no power over them because of the sin in your blood. IT IS THE BLOOD OF JESUS THAT BREAKS HIS AUTHORITY.
Our victory over sin and the devil is through the cross; through the cross of Jesus Christ,
Colossians 2:15 " [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."
In fact the whole point about Jesus' 1st coming was to set men free from sin and it's penalty and break the power of the Hell or the Devil off of our lives ! Hallelujah !!!!!
Acts 10:38 " How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. "
ELEMENT 1 - FIRST ELEMENT IS THE BLOOD OF JESUS TO BREAK SATAN'S AUTHORITY.
Point : Authority is different from power. Authority is the right to take action or give commands, power is what enforces that right or authority. The word power in Hebrews 2:14 means more than just power or force, it means authority or dominion. The blood of Jesus breaks Satan's dominion over us!
Once You Have That Relationship With Christ, And The Blood of Jesus Is Applied..... That Breaks The Devil's Actual Rights to Your Soul; But That Doesn't Stop The Thief From Trying to Steal You.
Some people think because they have the blood applied that that's all there is to resisting the devil. Sorry, it's not like that. Let's look at it. But you must have the blood of Jesus first. Without the blood of Jesus Christ, then you are still in bondage to the Enemy and he still has authority over you. You can't bind something that has authority over you first.
Hebrews 2:14 " Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; "
This is foundational. The word destroy here means to make nothing of or to destroy authority. Literally, the Word or Logos of God became flesh so that He might destroy the power of the Devil who had the power of death up to that point through sin. The life that is in the blood of Jesus Christ has destroyed the power of the Enemy over our lives.
Colossians 2:14-15 " 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. "
The triumph was a Roman celebration of a Roman general who had won the decisive battle of a war. They would make a show openly of the fallen generals by tying them behind the victorious general's chariot as the crowd threw garbage on the defeated ones... as the winning general would ride victoriously after winning the battle for their nation.
In the same way, Jesus Christ at the cross won the decisive battle for God and for us as well. He is the CHAMPION! He is the champion over evil... principalities and powers have already been vanquished by Jesus Christ. Look... the war might still be on going, but the decisive victory has already been won through Jesus Christ. And through the cross and the blood of Jesus Christ, the Devil and the fallen angels and demons have already been defeated. And that blood of Jesus Christ in us gives us victory.
Romans 14:9 " For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. "
1 John 3:8 " He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. "
Galatians 5:1 " Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. "
The BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST hand made us free from the bondage of sin and the Enemy!
We must have the blood of Jesus Christ before we can have victory... the authority of the blood destroys the authority of sin and the Devil over our lives. So the blood is the first element in binding and loosing.

"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELEMENT 2 - SUBMITTING TO GOD SO JESUS WILL RISE UP IN US. DON'T FIGHT ALONE.
James 4:7 " Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. "
1. This is an important element that you must have to bind demonic strongmen. It is God in us that does the work. And without Him you cannot do anything. Add to that, if you have not spent time with God, don't climb into the ring with the enemy.
Understand that there is one Devil, and many fallen angels and many demons.
Submit = Greek hupotasso (hoop-ot-as'-so) It means to be under the authority of another... to yield to another's control and advice... surrender your own control for theirs. I is to be obedient and subjected to. We are the Lord's subordinate... Jesus Christ is Lord. When we pray and surrender... you see, many pray and don't surrender. They pray and give God a list of "gimmes". But when we have real worship and prayer... and submit to God, then the Holy Spirit reveals more and more of Him in our lives.
We have to get real about this. How many times have you come against an evil spirit just to have it do nothing? If you have not surrendered to God through prayer, then flesh will be in control and not the Spirit.
You cannot resist the devil alone, when we submit ourselves to Christ He rises up in us.
2. Too many have succumbed to secret sin and the devil has a lever controlling their lives, and then they try to make him flee and it doesn't work. There's a song that says, you better go down in the name of Jesus when you go down.
The word resist is anthistemi (anth-is'-tay-mee), which is to resist or withstand or oppose... it is to make a stand against or openly oppose. We have been given spiritual weapons of God (that one is coming), and when we have prayed and submitted to God, then we are able to withstand the enemy.
Ephesians 6:10-11 " 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. "
Be strong "in the Lord" and "in the power of HIS might". That is submitting to God first. And when we have submitted to God, then we can stand against the wiles of the devil.
Resist the devil = diabolos = false accuser or slanderer... another name of the Great Red Dragon Satan.
Once again, very few people have gone against the actual devil himself. Jesus Christ did but He was the Messiah... the Son of the Living God. But there is a hierarchy of evil... principalities and powers, and the devil is at the top of that structure of evil. It is his forces we have to deal with if not he himself.
3. My favorite part of this is the part that says that "he will flee"! I like that fleeing part.
You know, too many have been scared by the enemy into fleeing themselves when they are promised victory through Christ if they would just submit to God and resist the enemy. He will flee... OH, VICTORY IN JESUS... MY SAVIOUR FOREVER!
Flee is pheugo (fyoo'-go)... to run away and seek safety. Or in the terms I was raised with, "to run like a scalded dog". The enemy will run when you have first submitted to God and then resist him.
Get this... he runs from you and from me! From us... now, they are not afraid of just us, but it is the Christ in us manifested by the Holy Spirit that frightens evil and gives us the power to resist it and oppose it so that they have to flee.
The triumph has already been won, when the Holy Spirit moves through us and we resist... evil scatters.
Submitting yourself to God so that you can resist the devil is the second element.
